Effective April 25, 2008, all strengths of the oral medication Digitek® (digoxin), which is used for abnormal heart rate and congestive heart failure, have been recalled by Actavis Totowa Manufacturing. This medication is also distributed under the Bertek label. Generic digoxin manufactured by other companies is not included in this recall.

You should contact your pharmacy to verify if your medication is included in this recall. If your pharmacy confirms that your medication has been recalled or is included in the recall, you should contact your physician immediately to discuss the best alternative therapy options.

One of the alternative medications your physician may prescribe is the brand-name, Lanoxin® for generic (digoxin) digitoxin. Under all HealthChoice health plans, you would normally be responsible for the copay plus the brand-name generic cost difference. Temporarily, you will not be charged the brand-name generic cost difference for the Lanoxin® prescription.
